We're winding up the second of two snow days here. It was a nice mini-break for Kiki, and now she has only one more day of school before a three-day weekend. Life is rough, huh?

You would think so if you were in this house at certain mealtimes. You see, yesterday's lunch wasn't her normal peanut butter-and-jelly fare. Since Jason was home to occupy the boy, I decided to cook. More specifically, I made panko-crusted salmon and served it with a green salad. Personally, I would have preferred a glaze or salmon cakes, but I thought that the crunchy breading would make the fish a little more palatable for the others.

I was wrong. Jason and Kiki both ate the meal, of course, but not without what Oma calls "a long tooth." I would expect nothing less from Kiki - getting her to eat things

Happy, happy day

Most years I have mixed feelings about my birthday. Seeing my age creep up doesn't bother me much (though it was disconcerting to have my "advanced age" be a medical factor throughout my pregnancy), and I've gotten used to the fact that when you grow up and have responsibilities (ie. kids, work), your birthday is just like any other day.

I can't remember ever having a miserable birthday, but at the end of the day, I usually feel like, "That was it?" and it makes me feel like an ungrateful wretch.

Not this year, though. I had a truly terrific day. Some highlights:

Waking up to feel a slight chill in the air. Our thermometer had us in the 50s! A nice respite for my overheated, hormonal body, and it was great to be able to open the windows. And the rest of the day was just as

Happy thought, indeed

There are so many things I am angry about right now, and I have the urge to just get it all out there and clear the air.

But I'm going to write about something happy instead.

One of the best things about fall is that a lot of the good eateries around here put pumpkin dishes on their menu. Pumpkin muffins, pumpkin whoopie pies, pecan-pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin ravioli, pumpkin lattes ... yum! I just did a Stocked Fridge session yesterday and was given ready-to-bake pumpkin cookies as their complimentary dessert. And Jason and I just had breakfast/lunch at The Seedling Cafe, where one of soups du jour was pumpkin maple - the perfect way to thaw my chilled fingers after watching Kiki's soccer practice.
