What’s up with us?

Look at that – almost three months gone in the blink of an eye! Now summer is here and all my excuses for not updating are gone.I can’t tell you how many posts I’ve false-started, only to stop either because I’m getting boring or I’ve lost my train of thought. And then I’ll read updates from one of my friends on their blogs (or even a lengthy Facebook post), and I’ll think again, “Man, I really should get on that.”

A few year-end things got in the way: volunteering, school plays, dance recitals and all that. The boy finished his first year of preschool with a lovely party (and lots of singing and signing by cute 3- and 4-year-olds). I also met with his teacher, and he’s all set to join the 4-year-old class in September! Oh, he also participated in a gymnastics show and got his very first trophy.

The girl is done with third grade – and went out with a bang. In the last two weeks, she was a starfish in the third grade oceanography play (and actually got to fill in as a marlin during one of the performances, as well). She performed in her first band concert and was part of her class poetry reading. And, of course, she earned her own gymnastics trophy and a five-year award at her dance recital. She also came home with a report card to be proud of.

And now … summer. This week was blessedly empty of scheduled activities. She’s on her second sleepover of the week (not including the typical ones with grandparents).

Most of our summer is open. There are some day camps scheduled, and Jason has some time off planned. Other than vague ideas, we really don’t know what we’re going to do. And that’s awesome.

What’s even better: We won’t be joining the back-to-school rush, for the most part. While the boy continues with his pre-K (and speech) education, I will become a fourth-grade(ish) educator – in my own home and with my own kid.

Yep, we’re going to become those weird homeschooling people.

Stay tuned!
